Vitamin B12 can help Avoid Hair Loss
So why does Lex Luthor hate Superman so much? Why, it’s because he’s so jealous of Superman’s thick, luxurious hair, of course!
Well, who can blame him? Constantly having people using your head to look at their own reflections is enough to drive anyone to the dark
side.
While in reality, baldness probably isn’t directly responsible for making people evil, it can still be pretty annoying when people
have to shield there eyes when they look at you, less they be blinded by glorious glare of your bare scalp.
Let’s face it, everyone wants to have healthy, luxurious hair. Unfortunately not everyone is lucky enough to be born with it. Even
if one is fortuitous enough to be blessed with lovely locks, they still have to deal with the dilemma of hair loss.
So, what causes hair loss among individuals? Why do some people have it and some don’t?
Well, genetics plays a part. External environmental factors such as the weather too, but more significantly it has to do with the
person’s health.
While hair does not have any particularly important use or function, other than the aesthetic value that people place in having a
killer hair cut, it does provide a pretty good insight into the general condition of a person’s body.
The state of a person’s hair can reflect greatly on the state of their health at the time. Having rich, vibrant, thick, and
luxurious hair are indicative of a healthy well nourished body. While on the other hand, having frail and brittle hair can be a sign of
malnourishment or even illness. Other negative signs include damaged hair, excessive dryness, oiliness, premature graying, flakiness,
dandruff, split ends, and exorbitant shedding of hair.
Just like any other part of the body, the hair and in particular the scalp, needs the proper nourishment in order to be
healthy.
One of the most essential nutrients that the hair needs is vitamin B12. The body absolutely needs vitamin B12 in order for healthy
hair to grow.
Vitamin B12 or cobalamin is responsible, for among other things, the proper formation of healthy red blood cells. These are needed
to get vital oxygen to different parts of the body, including the hair.
Consuming a lot Vitamin B12 can greatly help hair loss. Some good sources include:
- Chicken
- Eggs
- Fish
- Milk
- Liver
Since dependable vitamin B12 sources can only be found from animal sources, some strict vegetarians and vegans might have
difficulty getting a sufficient intake. They can get their vitamin B12 from supplements, commonly capsules, in order to avoid vitamin B12
deficiency.
People who suffer from hair loss tend to have low levels of vitamin B12.
Since the body can store up to many years supply of vitamin B12, in can take 4 or 5 years worth of insufficient vitamin B12 intake
before deficiency manifests. Vitamin B12 deficiency is more likely to occur due to the body’s failure to absorb the vitamin
adequately.
When people grow older, they tend to lose the ability to properly absorb vitamin B12. Hence, older people beginning to lose hair
at around age 60 or so.
Deficiency can also be the result of certain diseases like pernicious anemia. This disorder destroys the body’s intristic factor,
needed for the proper absorption of vitamin B12.
Since vitamin B12 deficiency can cause hair loss, among other more serious problems, a vitamin B12 supplement is prescribed.
Either capsules or, in more severe cases, injections.
Eating a healthy, balanced diet with lots of vitamin B12 can greatly help hair loss. You never know, it might just be the factor
that seperates the Supermans from the Dr. Evils
